The 'G Avenue House' has been insulated! AmeriCorps Green Iowa provided this service, first using a spray foam, soy based insulation, the yellowish layer. Next, recycled excess blue jean material produced insulation was put up. Soon to come, DRYWALL!!

All in All, It's Just Another Sheetrock in the Wall
With sheetrock donated by the Linn Area Long Term Recovery coalition, and labor donated by Southwest Iowa Regional Partnership (S.W.I.R.P.) the 'G Avenue House' has hit yet another milestone: DRYWALL HANGING COMPLETE! Thank you to all who helped make this happen. Over the next week, mudding and tapping will take place to finish this step before trim work is started. Also, look for some photos of Venician plastering, taught by Victor Prinze with a quick 'How To' included.

She Came in Through the Bathroom Window...
Seen in these pictures, you can notice that the old window casings do not always fit the new drywall. To make these match, allowing trim to fit flush, we must plane the old window casings down until these are flush with the drywall. To do this, we used an electric planer, a very quick and simple process.

Come on Baby Solar Light My Fire
With the help of AmeriCorps Green Iowa, we were able to install some solar lights to the 411 G Avenue House. This will provide natural light into the kitchen, an energy efficient solution to increase light into a house without the need for extra energy draining (and wallet draining) light bulbs!

After All, You're My Wonderwall
Now that the drywall is up and mudding and taping is completed, the walls needed to be textured and painted to give them their final touches. To prevent the need for unnecessary cleaning, cheap plastic covering can be placed over windows and outlets. To texture, a pressurized hose and hopper are used to spray the walls with drywalling mud watered down to resemble pancake batter. This typically dries within 4 hours. This is then primed and painted. The quickest way to complete this task is by using a paint sprayer setup, leaving the windows covered. The last few pictures show Venician Plastering, taught by Victor Prinze, which can add a vibrant touch to any living space.
